Brussels

Brussels was a last minute trip so when I got there and started walking around I was surprised with the beautiful architecture. My plan this time was to stroll around the city without a fixed itinerary and whenever I saw something interesting I would walk in that direction and check it out. A good thing about this city is that a lot of the main attractions are within walking distance from each other so the exploring was easy. I started my journey at The Grand Place. This central square is considered one of the most beautiful squares in Europe and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998. At the square you will see some beautiful buildings including the King`s House and the Town Hall.

I decided to do a Cultural Walking Tour from the Airbnb experiences. It was really worth it because I learned so much about the history of Brussels. I learned about the legends behind the construction of the buildings located in the Grand Place. I learned about the superstitions and traditions surrounding several statues located around the city including the Charles Buls Statue, the Everard t’Serclaes, and the famous Manneken Pis. I did not know that you can touch some of these statues and make wishes for money, success, love… and a lot people follow these superstitions to this day. Of course I touched the statues as well and made my wishes!

My next stop was my favorite spot in Brussels – the view from the Mont des Arts. This part of town is really beautiful with nice architecture and some museums to visit including the Musical Instruments Museum and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts. It is the perfect place to take a nice picture of Brussels.

Brussels also have nice churches and I had the chance to visit the Notre Dame Du Sablon. The history says that the construction of the church took about a century to be concluded and it is dated back to the 15th century. Right in front of the church you will find a little garden called Jardin du Petit Sablon. It is a cute place to relax in the middle of the city.

Brussels has great culinary and it is obviously famous for Belgium Waffles and Beer. Before I visited the city I googled ” best waffles in Brussels” the result came as Maison Dandoy. I honestly can`t tell you if that is the best waffle in Brussels because I have not tried all the waffles available in the city, but I can tell you that the waffles I had at Maison were really tasty! What I liked the most about that place is that they offer two types of waffles: Brussels waffle and Liege waffle. The Brussels waffles is like something I have never tried before – it was very light. On the other hand, the Liege waffle is more similar to what I had before – very dense. Maison Dandoy has a couple locations in the city but the one with seating is located at the Charles Buls street (expect a line).

One of the most popular places in Brussels is the Delirium Cafe offering more than 2000 beers from around the world. This place was the last spot from my walking tour. I have to be honest I am not a big fan of beer but I can`t deny that Belgium has indeed really good beer. You should definitely try!

It was a pleasure visiting Brussels and I definitely recommend to just walk around and explore the city. As you do that you will come across some really interesting street art and beautiful architecture.
