Quebec City

Quartier Petit Champlain

Quebec City is such a charming little city and definitely worth a visit! One of the nicest part to walk around in the city is the Quartier du Petit Champlain – a small commercial area with 47 shops and restaurants. You can spend a few hours strolling around the alleys and checking out all the beautiful  art pieces, crafts, clothing, etc. Even if you don`t like shopping it is a really nice spot to take beautiful pictures (day and night). I was there in December so all the Christmas decoration made this place even more special.

The Château Frontenac

Château Frontenac

This is a historic hotel situated atop a cliff in Old Quebec. The hotel opened its doors back in 1893. The coolest thing about this ‘castle’ is that when you see the city from afar, especially at night, the massive construction makes a beautiful view. I wish I have taken a better picture that captures that view… but just google it and you will see what I am talking about. You can still stay at the hotel or take a guided tour. Very near the hotel there is a nice viewpoint where you can see a panoramic of the Quartier du Petit Champlain and the Lévis city right across the St. Lawrence River.

Tip: Take the Quebec City- Lévis Ferry to see Quebec City from an entirely different perspective. The ferry offers a spectacular view of Old Quebec specially at night with all the city lights. The ride (one-way) takes about 12 minutes and it is not expensive. This is a must do!

One of the things that I love to do when visiting a new city it is to do a food tour. So while I was in the city I did the St. Roch Food Tour a 3-hour guided walking tour with 6 tasting locations. St. Roch is consider a hip district in Quebec City. I loved the tour and it was a fun way to explore a different part of town.

The countryside of Quebec City

Montmorency Falls

I only had a couple of days in Quebec City so once again I decided to take a bus tour to see as many places as I possibly could. I did the Quebec City and Countryside tour and it was great. From inside the bus I saw all the areas of Quebec City while I daydreamed about living there. In the afternoon we headed to the countryside, a 4 hours 30 minutes tour which included a trip along the Beaupré Coast and stops to visit the Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré Shrine, the Montmorency Falls, and the Island of Orléans. My favorite part was the Falls located in the Parc de La Chute-Montmorency. I visited the falls during the winter but when the weather is warm the park has zip-line and a cable car. If you have more time you might want to do the countryside tour by car and enjoy all the extra activities. The park with the falls is located only 15 min away from Quebec City.

“Charming” is the word I would use to describe Quebec City. I love Canada and this city was another pleasant surprise. I also went to Montreal in this same trip. You can check it out my other post 🙂
